Transhepatic Access for Radiofrequency Ablation in a Child
نویسندگان
چکیده
126 Radiofrequency catheter ablation is safe and effective in children with refractory supraventricular tachycardia and poor response to pharmacological treatment. This procedure may be difficult or impossible to perform in patients with bilateral obstruction of the femoral venous access. In recent years, the transhepatic approach has been found to be safe in children. We report the case of a 19-month-old boy with permanent junctional reciprocating tachycardia who underwent transhepatic catheterization for radiofrequency ablation.

INTRODUCTION Transcatheter radiofrequency ablation is an effective, safe treatment of arrhythmias in children. However, despite technical advances, patients with obstructed venous access to the heart have not been candidates for this treatment. METHODS AND RESULTS Two children (8.2 and 10.9 kg) with complex congenital heart disease, supraventricular tachycardia, and obstructed venous access u...
متن کاملI-46: Radiofrequency Ablation of Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign solid tumors that are present in the majority of women. While often asymptomatic, fibroids can result in abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, subfertility, dyspareunia and other symptoms. Submucous and intramural fibroids are most associated with heavy menstrual bleeding; subserosal fibroids are more often innocuous unless sufficiently large so as to con...
متن کاملPercutaneous Intraductal Radiofrequency Ablation Combined with Biliary Stent Placement for Nonresectable Malignant Biliary Obstruction Improves Stent Patency but not Survival
Although radiofrequency (RF) ablation has been accepted as a curative treatment modality for solid organ tumors, intraductal RF ablation for malignant biliary obstruction has not been widely described. The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety, and efficacy (in terms of stent patency and survival) of intraductal RF ablation combined with biliary stent placement for nonresect...
متن کاملPercutaneous transhepatic venous access for catheter ablation procedures in patients with interruption of the inferior vena cava.
BACKGROUND Catheter ablation of left-sided atrial arrhythmias generally is performed using a transfemoral venous approach through the inferior vena cava (IVC). In this report, we assessed the feasibility of a percutaneous transhepatic approach to ablation of left-sided atrial arrhythmias in 2 patients with interruption of the IVC. METHODS AND RESULTS Patient 1 had atrial flutter in the settin...
